Delays & Cancellations

Which airline has the fewest delays?

Based on the most recent BTS on-time performance data, Delta consistently ranks at or near the top for on-time arrivals among major U.S. carriers, typically delivering 82-85% of flights within 15 minutes of schedule. Alaska Airlines is another strong performer at 80-83%.

At the other end: Frontier and JetBlue tend to have the highest delay rates among carriers with significant domestic operations. JetBlue's challenges are heavily concentrated at their congested East Coast focus cities (JFK, EWR, BOS, FLL), while Frontier's ultra-low-cost model means tighter turnarounds and less schedule padding.

But airline-level averages hide the real story. Route and hub matter more than carrier brand. Delta at ATL has different on-time performance than Delta at LGA. United at DEN runs better than United at EWR. Southwest at DAL (Dallas Love) runs far better than Southwest at MDW (Chicago Midway). When choosing flights for reliability, look at the specific flight number's historical performance, not just the airline name. Flight Check tracks this at the route and flight-number level so you can compare what actually matters.
