For domestic flights at DTW, we recommend at least 139 minutes to comfortably make your connection. For international flights, allow at least 120 minutes. Early morning flights tend to have fewer delays, so your connection is safer if your first leg departs before 8 AM.

Question 5

What happens if I miss my connection at DTW?

Accepted Answer

If both flights are on the same ticket, the airline must rebook you on the next available flight at no extra charge. If you booked separate tickets, you're responsible for rebooking costs. At DTW, if you miss your connection due to an airline delay, ask the gate agent about rebooking and meal vouchers. If the airline caused the missed connection and it results in an overnight stay, request hotel accommodation.
